2010 WILL BE A YEAR TO REMEMBER!
December 28
Happy holidays to you all!!!
ALMOST END OF THE YEAR
December 09
Some D-Day illustrations
and a cover from a couple of months ago.
INKS AND MORE INKS
November 10
Long time no posts. Inks on King Arthur have kept me busy.
And illustrations for Veja
and Folha de São Paulo.
And the classes at Quanta.
And a few other things, to be announced soon. Sleep, who needs sleep?
And a blog for King Arthur,
now that I am half-way through the book.
HQMix
September 03
HQMix is Brazil's largest and best known comic awards.
This year was it's 21st edition, and I was invited to be part of the organization committee.
It was great fun and an honour to be part of. The event happened on the 21st August, and there are plenty of
photos
and
videos.
Storyboard for last week's Veja,
plus a few sketches from last month's visit to the UK.
I'm now on twitter: @samhart73.
And on Saturday afternoon I'll be having an open talk at
Quanta
with Weberson Santiago and Artur Fujita about working for the British Market.
LFCC
August 01
Had a great time at the LFCC - I had a table next to
Phil Jimenez and John Charles,
sold some books, posters and plenty of sketches, met Chris Achilleos and saw old friends
- here are a few photos.
BACK IN THE UK
July 11
I'll be at the
London Film and Comic Con,
on the weekend of July 18-19th.
And plenty of updates at OutlawRobinHood,
including interviews, reviews and a video clip.
STORIES AND HISTORIES
July 01
King Arthur page 1 inks,
some more live model drawing, another
Rod Reis podcast - about teaching art, with Weberson Santiago and Marcelo Campos
- and an internet TV interview
(both in Portuguese).
ROUGH
June 05
144 King Arthur pages - roughs and letters - in three months.
Here's a look at page 1. Next week I start on the inks…
And, here in Brazil, the 2-page Death of the Romanovs
is republished in an over-sized History of the world special.
BLOG IT
May 29
Speaking of blogs, some I strongly recommend:
Kevin Nowlan with incredible art;
Todd Klein for letters and logos (and plants and birds);
D'Israeli shows fantastic and detailed work process -
also Montalvo,
Cobiaco and
life-drawing (in Portuguese).
And an illustration
about the iPhone and Wii in Iraq.
ROBIN HOOD
May 01
As the Graphic Novel
Outlaw: The Legend of Robin Hood will be in bookstores
in the UK, USA and Australia on June 1st,
Tony Lee and I have put up a
blog,
that we will be updating as much as possible over the next month with previews,
sketches, news and links.
SPIDER-MAN
April 18
Marvel superheroes in Manhattan!
And pirates!
And next Wednesday Edu Mendes, Nobu Chinen
and I start a free three-month comic class - details
here.
ART DEADLINES
April 01
So, I've been doing some oil painting classes with the amazing
Lise Forell
and this weekend I'll take part in an exhibition with other students.
Here are the details and here
are a couple of pieces that won't be on show…
Deadlines vary a bit from place to place. Newspapers tend to have 2 or 3 hours for an illustration or storyboard;
weekly magazines a couple of days; monthly magazines a week or so. For a monthly comic book,
22 pages in 28 days. King Arthur will be 144 pages in 9 months.
Doing something with no deadlines every once in a while is a nice change...
Also, Rod Reis' podcast #3,
an interview with Renato Guedes, is up (in Portuguese).
BROAD DAYLIGHT ROBBERY
March 03
Storyboard for today's Folha de São Paulo.
REAL LIFE
March 01
I've been doing some life drawings over the last couple of months,
and over at Rod Reis' podcast we talked to Cadu Simões about
independent comics (in Portuguese).
GHOSTBUSTING
February 15
Illustration for this week's Veja.
MANY MORE LINKS
February 03
The links page has been updated, and I'm putting down a few ideas
regarding art and comics in the words section.
Plus a first look at
King Arthur.
INTERVIEWS, PODCASTS AND 2009
January 26 2009
After last year's projects - Robin Hood, Judge Dredd
and Batman sketchcards - an interview
is up at Bigorna,
a podcast with Rod Reis and a
TV interview at Banca dos Quadrinhos,
plus a quick Q&A at a
friend's blog
and a small selection of my Judge Dredd
test pages
over the years (all in Portuguese).
And the classes at Quanta continue.
